Just on a whim, myself and my partner arrived at the camp car park for a quick walk – nobody there.

I either in the wrong place at the wrong time or in the right place at the right time! We were walking down a narrow tree fern lined track towards the Falls and there was a noise. I thought it was one of three things – A Deer, Wombat or Kangaroo. The noise was a ‘Cough’ of sorts, low, deep and powerful. Similar to a Koala, so I then thought that’s what it may be.

Looking at the ground and track, something caught my eye ahead of me at about 12 meters in a straight line. A large brownish dark figure. At first I thought it was  large Deer, a VERY large Deer.

I’m standing here looking at this thing facing me - this thing stood up right in front of me. My whole World change right there – right then.

This thing was immense. Absolutely huge. It stood there looking at me for what seemed to be a lifetime. Basically, I was looking at a large bipedal Primate of sorts, something I never expected to see.

This thing was huge. Looking straight at me. At that distance I could see almost all of it all the way down to around the ankles. I got a pretty good view. We stood there looking at each other for what seemed like a lifetime, but in reality was probably about 30 seconds to a minute.

It turned to its left and headed towards the Pine Plantation. It was swinging its way through the forest using its hands to move the saplings out of the way. It got to the edge of a fire trail, and pivoted around from the hip, not the neck, and looked at me again, which was when I had the fear and I ran back to by partner who was back on the main track.

Seeing what I have, I’ll never look at the Australian bush the same way every again
