Yowie Statue at the Narrabri Hotel, New South Wales
Yowie Statue at O'Reilly's in the Gold Coast Hinterland.
Bernard O'Reilly penned the second oldest Queensland reference to the Yowie in his book 'Green Mountains' in 1942. He told of the fear they had at night while riding their horse back up the mountain range and being tailed through the bush by something they couldn't explain.
Bernard writes “Nobody on foot could have kept pace with the horses up that steep range. Why the terror in the horses. There was a feeling that something was behind you, a feeling that made you look, over your shoulder. There were also sounds that no experienced bushman could account for. It is easy for some to say it must be a human, but there are arguments against it. We are completely at a loss, for a satisfactory explanation.”
