Hi Dean,

I’ve been seeing a few reports of sightings on the Atherton tablelands areas and one report said the creature was monkey like and after much thought I felt I should share something I saw which I just can’t explain.

In July of 2017, I was a passenger travelling in a car along the road between Mareeba and Mount Molloy, there is a big lake called Quaids Lake there. This was in broad daylight (2pm).

I was just looking at the fairly open bushland opposite the lake and I noticed a large black shape up in the branches of a tree.

I thought maybe it was a very large termite nest as it was a fair way away, maybe 50 metres or more but it looked too black to be a termite nest. I wasn’t taking that much notice, but just before the thing went out of sight I saw what appeared to be long arms stretch out reaching for another branch before the whole thing moved onto the other branch.

I was so stunned I didn’t say anything for a few minutes, my mind going through all the possibilities of what it could have been. I thought it was about the size of a black panther but when I read the report of something chimpanzee size it got me thinking. I have kicked myself all this time for not getting the driver to stop and turn around so I could have a better look.

4ft would probably be about right if it stood up, I remember the front legs were very long as it reached to the other branch.

I hope you can Catalogue my story in case anything else comes up in the future.
