Location: Cooktown, Queensland
Event: Yowie Sighting
Date: 2019
Time: 5.30am
[Male Witness]
I’ve had two sightings. The first one was about 5 years ago and the last one was about 12 months ago, both within about 6kms of each other on Mount Amos Road, which is just north of Black Mountain.
The first one was between 5 and 5.30am while driving to work. I saw it sitting in a ditch on the side of the road. The bush comes right up to the road. It was squatting facing the bush when I picked it up in the headlights. I have good LED spotlights on the ute.
It was just big black and hairy, basically. Then it moved off into the bush as I got closer.
It had arms like a monkey or orangutan. They were very long, and it moved like a monkey. That was about 5 years ago.
The second time I saw one, it didn’t actually see it standing up. Again it was facing the bush. It moved like a monkey with really long arms. It was very dark, maybe with a little bit of tan, but long hair all over it.
It was probably about 4 to 4 & 1/2 ft tall, but I didn’t see it stand up. It moved very quickly into the bush. I saw the arms come out, which was what made me think of a monkey. It’s hard to describe how it moved because it was still very hunched over, put its arms out in front of it and moved on into the bush.
Probably the closest thing I could describe it to is an orangutan. It was fairy solid and about the size of a person across. The hair was more than an inch long. Enough to give it full cover. I couldn’t see any skin under it.
