In 2008 I was on a army training exercise in Cowley Beach. I was part of a 5-man recon training exercise in which our team was operating in jungle/open forest close to the beach.
We were assimilated being attacked by ‘the enemy’, and we were having to run away from the enemy (it's called break contact), while shooting back at the enemy with fake rounds.
One night, our 5 man team was sleeping side by side in sleeping bags, with a rotating picket for 2 hours each. I was on picket sometime around 9-11pm keeping an ear out for any potential mock enemy attacks. During this time I could hear what was similar to a large man walking through the forest breaking branches and stomping through without hesitation. The noise was so loud I thought our team was going to be mock attacked by other army teams involved in the training at Cowley Beach.
The walking was loud. I thought they must be sneaking up on us to attack us again. I woke everyone up and we were getting ready to pack our bags and to break contact, but the person never came any closer to us and they just kept walking in one direction towards the beach.
We thought it may have been a planned attack on us.
The next day back at base, we asked the other team if they had come out last night.
They said no, no one was in the area.
We knew that to be correct because as I was saying, we only heard one person, and it did sound like a man, but with long strides and sounds of the cracking of dry wood on the ground, as it was stepped on. Big cracks.
For a normal person to walk through there, you're not going to walk that quick. It's dark and bushy, with thick foliage. You're going to be more hesitant about it. Whoever it was, wasn’t worried at all about hurting themselves.
From the stride, I assumed he must have been tall. Maybe like a very tall man, six and a half foot to seven foot man, walking through the bush with heavy boots on, and not worried about anything that was in the twine while I was walking.
We notices marks in the trees at around 8ft high in the direction he walked, which made no sense to me.
If this was a person, what's the reason for these marks to be in the trees? And the only reason would be is if someone's running, someone is running to get away from an attack, but no other people were doing reconnaissance training in that area anytime recently, and they looked like recent marks on the trees.
It made no sense what a person would be doing that in that area. We were the only people training in that there.
I came across your channel and came across your Cowley Beach Army Training sighting and I realised this could have been the same creature or similar that we heard that night.
