BIG FOOT PURSUIT ONE LEGEND GOES AFTER ANOTHER IN THE SNOWY EXPANSE OF THE HIMALAYAS.
By SUMAN DUBEY.

What happens when two legends meet? One, from the real world, the first man to reach the summit of Mt Everest without using bottled oxygen, the first to climb all 14 mountains higher than 8,000 metres, and arguably the most accomplished mountaineer alive. The other, a creature of the wild, unseen
and uncaught, yet all pervasive in the lore of the Himalayas and Tibet, a riddle without as yet an acknowledged reality. Such an encounter can only be momentous-and this vivid and gripping account of it doesn't disappoint. Reinhold Messner is not only a great explorer and climber, he is an
accomplished storyteller. His books, about a dozen by now, are memorable not only for the feats they describe but the manner in which they do so. His search for the yeti has the suspense of a mystery and the thrill of an adventure. Most expeditions that set out to find the mythical hairy beast who had left footprints for many to see but had never itself been sighted, returned empty-handed, rich in theory but poor on fact. Messner has actually attempted an answer to the question that has dogged them all: Does the yeti exist? Messner's interest in the yeti emerges from a mid-1986 encounter with an animal in the jungles of eastern Tibet somewhere near the upper reaches of the Mekong river. Messner was transfixed by the first, fleeting appearance of the "apparition", as he calls it. He didn't have the presence of mind to photograph it, but it had left a footprint that was suggestive of a yeti's footprint photographed by another great Himalayan explorer, Eric Shipton, in 1951. Then, pushing on through the forest, he saw it again. And the legend of the yeti took over: It stood over 7 ft tall, it seemed to change shape the longer he stared at it, and it ran with a power and agility no human could match.
That was the beginning of Messner's quest. It was never far from his thoughts, as he made one remarkable climb or exploration after another. Following the 1986 encounter, he made no fewer than 21 explorations which he describes as "yeti research expeditions" before presenting his findings to
the world of science in late 1998. Everywhere he went, from the Karakoram to Bhutan, from Nepal to eastern Tibet, Messner came across countless people who had stories to tell about the yeti. Those who claimed to have seen it unfailingly described it as walking on two feet, unlike bears which move on all fours, taller than a man, hairy, and capable of great strength and speed. In monasteries and elsewhere, Messner was shown relics said to be of yetis', but, as with the famous scalp at
Pangboche monastery in Solo Khumbu in the Everest region, they turned out to be something else. He also corresponded with a German explorer and zoologist sent by Nazi Germany to incite the Tibetans against the British before World War II who in the process also searched for the yeti. Finally, in the
summer of 1997, Messner was able to photograph a yeti-like creature in the Karakorams, and he felt ready to knit all the pieces of his research together.

9' creature seen bent down, then walking

Date: fall october 2002
Hopkins County county, TX

Nearest town: Como
Nearest road: Hwy 11
Conditions: Sunny, mild
Time: mid morning 10:00 am
Location: My parents own a 20 acre piece of land . We keep cows off and on there. And, we grow grass on it. He and a she hide in the small woods we have. They avoid us as much as possible. They sit with their arms over their bending legs. Should I be alarmed by this? Are they safe animals? Contact me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to let me know if they are safe or not. Thanks Kandice Frost

Description of event: I was inside my parents truck. I work only an hour or two whereas my parents work for hours and I looked into the wooded area and I saw something furry and black sitting down with their arms squeezing their bent legs. Then, I looked the other way , and I looked again to the same area and he was walking , he was about 9 ft. tall. I think they live there.

A Glimpse of the "Yardley Yeti"?

http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=features&id=4626922

By Don Polec

There have been increasing reports of a feral creature roaming the rurul reaches of Bucks County that no one can explain

OK, So calling it a "yeti" is sort of overhyping it, I admit, but when the local police keep getting reports like this, civic promoters feel, why not exploit it? Let's face it, it's a marketting goldmine. I mean who ever heard of Loch Ness BEFORE the monster showed up? And besides, "Yardley Yeti" has such an alliterative ring to it... (presumably winning out over the "Bucks county Bigfoot" or the "Solebury Sasquatch")

Anyway, I can personally attest to the authenticity of these sightings, since I'VE seen this creature first hand. It's noteworthy when you almost hit a creature with your car ... THAT YOU CAN'T IDENTIFY.. When it dashed across Eagle road in Upper Makefield and into the woods, I was at a loss not only as to what it was, but as to how I would even describe it to anyone... "Well, it sort of looked like.................. uh. ........ "

The best I can do is say it was a quadruped, grey in color, about the size of a large german shepherd, skinny, really ratty looking, body parts that seemed oddly out of proportion, too large for a fox, legs too long for a coyote or dog, head too small for it's size, and REALLY in need of some grooming and big dish of alpo.

This is similar to reports that have been coming in to Lower Makefield police headquarters over the past several months, although some reports cite a smaller tan-colored animal. The creature in the photos looks like some bizarre cross between a mangy golden retriever and a kangaroo, but is exactly like the gangly thing that ran in front of my car. Sort of like a dog put together by a committee that couldn't agree on what it should look like.

By the way, the digital pictures were taken in a parking lot near New Hope by a local author named Jonathan Maberry who works at the Writer's Corner in Doylestown and -- get this -- writes HORROR novels... And also non-fiction works about the paranormal involving odd and unexplained creatures. Talk about having inspiration plopped right into your lap. Wow.

My wife and I saw this critter 2 times this year. The last time was on July 23. I took 2 pictures of
it while it was in our back yard.

We live near the Green Lane Reservoir in Montgomery county.
One pic I have of it is attached.

We think it is a red fox with a bad case of mange.
